Solution

Monkeypox is a rare viral disease that occurs mainly in central and west African countries. It is similar to human smallpox, although it is generally milder. The disease was first discovered in 1958 when outbreaks of a pox-like disease occurred in monkeys kept for research.

Symptoms:

  1. Fever: High temperature usually above 38C.
  2. Headache: General feeling of discomfort.
  3. Muscle aches: Pain in muscles.
  4. Backache: Pain in the back.
  5. Chills: Feeling of cold.
  6. Exhaustion: A state of extreme physical or mental fatigue.
  7. A rash, often beginning on the face and then spreading to other parts of the body. The rash changes and goes through different stages before finally forming a scab, which later falls off.

Risk Factors:

  1. Location: Central and West African countries, particularly in rural, rainforest regions.
  2. Animal contact: Handling monkeys, African rodents or squirrels, eating inadequately cooked meat of these animals, or being bitten by an animal infected with the virus.
  3. Human-to-human transmission: Close contact with the blood, bodily fluids, or rash of an infected person, or with materials contaminated by the virus.

It's important to note that monkeypox is usually a self-limiting disease and most people recover within several weeks. However, severe and fatal illness can occur in people with weakened immune systems. Currently, there is no specific treatment for monkeypox.
