When two dice are rolled, there are a total of 6*6 = 36 possible outcomes.

The outcomes that give a sum of 4 are: (1,3), (2,2), and (3,1). Each of these pairs can occur in two ways (i.e., the first die showing 1 and the second showing 3 or the first die showing 3 and the second showing 1). However, the pair (2,2) can occur in only one way.

So, there are 3 favorable outcomes.

Therefore, the probability of getting a sum of 4 is 3/36 = 1/12.
