Solution

Answer

Most weather exists in the troposphere, which is the lowest layer of Earth's atmosphere. This layer extends from the surface of the Earth up to about 8 to 15 kilometers (5 to 9 miles) in altitude, depending on the geographical location. In the troposphere, temperature decreases with altitude and atmospheric pressure is highest near the Earth's surface. The presence of water vapor, coupled with the convection currents and other dynamic processes, leads to the formation of clouds, precipitation, and various weather phenomena that we experience on a daily basis.

Above the troposphere are the stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere, but these layers are more stable and have less vertical mixing, which is why most weather activity is concentrated in the troposphere.
