Solution

A ray of light passing through the center of curvature of a concave mirror gets reflected along the same path due to the following reasons:

  1. The center of curvature (C) of a concave mirror is the point at the center of the sphere from which the mirror is cut. This point lies on the principal axis of the mirror.

  2. When a ray of light passes through the center of curvature, it strikes the mirror surface at a 90-degree angle (normal incidence). This is because the line joining the center of curvature and any point on the mirror is always normal to the mirror at that point.

  3. According to the law of reflection, the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection. In this case, since the angle of incidence is 0 degrees (the ray is incident normally to the mirror surface), the angle of reflection is also 0 degrees.

  4. Therefore, the ray of light gets reflected along the same path.

This is a special case of light reflection by a concave mirror and is one of the important ray diagrams while studying the image formation by concave mirrors.
