Gender Role Conflict: This concept refers to the tension a person feels when they are trying to fulfill multiple gender roles that conflict with each other. For example, a woman who is a mother and also has a demanding career may experience gender role conflict. She may feel pressure to be a nurturing, present mother while also being expected to be a dedicated, hard-working employee. These conflicting roles can create stress and tension.

Gender Role Transcendence: This concept refers to the idea that a person's skills, abilities, and interests should not be limited or defined by their gender. For example, a man who is a nurse is an example of gender role transcendence. Despite nursing being a traditionally female-dominated profession, this man has transcended traditional gender roles to pursue a career he is passionate about.
