• How do I communicate with my instructor and classmates online?

  • The easiest way to communicate with all of your students is by emailing them using the Announcement feature in Canvas. For real-time interactions, Zoom is recommended.

• How can I hold office hours online?

  • There are many options for holding office hours online. Zoom is a terrific option and can even be used to create group break out rooms so you can meet with multiple groups of students in the same session.

• What if students don’t have Internet access or limited technology and/or software access?

  • Students may use on-campus computing resources if they need to access technology. Consider including materials that can be downloaded and read offline. Zoom works on mobile phones if a laptop is not available.

• How can I adapt assignments that require lab work or community-based field work?

  • Consider substituting research-based assignments (like literature reviews or data analysis) or group projects for other kinds of hands-on work. Students can work in groups to examine how your particular field might help society respond to the coronavirus or future pandemics.

  • The Transfer Center at Laney College helps you continue your education towards a four-year bachelor’s degree. They offer services and programs for a successful transfer experience, including the Transfer Track learning community.

  • Laney College provides career counseling support with career exploration, self-assessment, and major and career decision making to help all students achieve career satisfaction and success.

  • Laney College offers various support services including Admissions & Records, Adult Education, Asian Pacific American Student Success, CalFresh, CalWORKs, EOPS, CARE & NextUp, and Student Accessibility Services among others.

• How can I get involved in student activities and campus life?

  • Laney College has several student activities and campus life programs such as the Associated Students of Laney College (ASLC), student clubs, campus events, and the student publication, The Citizen.

Daily Life

• How do I obtain financial aid and manage student fees?

  • The Financial Aid Department provides timely financial aid access, financial literacy, and student support services. Students can also use the Installment Payment Plan option if they cannot pay all fees at once.

• What resources are available for students with limited financial means?

  • Laney College offers resources such as the CalFresh Program, CalWORKs, and financial aid to support students. Additionally, the Latinx Cultural Center and other programs assist students in applying for financial aid and enrolling in classes.
