The University of Hawaii at Hilo will always have a special place in my heart. This is where I met some of the most amazing people globally. It is also where I was challenged, supported, and have people who believed in me. I couldn't have survived the UNI life without the help of my mentors, advisors, professors, friends, and classmates. We all have our own reasons for going places. I would rather be nowhere else.

I've actually been to a few schools. This school is small, and personable. You can actually talk to your professors. Yet they lead the way in many areas like geology with nearby volcanoes, marine biology (on an island), archaeology/culture with all the ancient sites. The entire island becomes your campus, and that oppurtunity is second to none.

I love UH Hilo. I am a Big Island Hawaii resident, so I'm definitely biased :) :) :) There's not a lot of job opportunity here, but it's a Fantastic place to be a student. Hilo always rains (Hilo always Reigns!) so bring an umbrella. Tut, tut!

If you're not from Hawaii it will definitely be a culture shock at first, I regretted it at first but once you get used to the climate and you find your group of friends it will be the best decision! I met my life long friends here and we moved into a house together until we graduated or transferred. I played on the women's soccer team her as well!

Great school with a lot of opportunities!

It is an island so keep that in mind. That taken I love it here

UH Hilo is an amazing school. The student to professor ratio is such that it is quite easy to get one on one time with an instructor. The campus is sprawling but does not feel overwhelming and the grounds are simply beautiful. VERY happy I decided to attend UHH.

not worth it

The campus facilities are a joke & the marine science building is held together with mold. Half the professors are here because they couldn't cut it at a real school. Opportunities are limited and teachers are flakey. Honestly if you can go somewhere else do it. This school is a community college with 4-year institution tuition.
Overall 1.2
the food is always undercooked. The professors should care more about the students. There is not night life unless you grew up on the island + have family there. Most of Hawaiians hate the white people that come. over the last few years I have noticed more theft, which is really sad. The best part about this school is probably the new buildings.
Overall 1.3
If you're coming from the mainland. Don't assume it's going to be paradise because it's Hawaii. Of all the places around the state, Hilo and Big Island in general doesn't put off the aloha vibe. It's an ugly, boring, unfriendly, and dull city. The school has subpar professors and the worst student life/rec facilities.
Overall 1.3
campus is poorly designed. teachers dont really care( exludeing the the hawaiian studies program i dont have enough things to say about them) there is nothing fun to do on campus and no social life.

This school REALLY SUCKS. I wish Manoa had my major
Overall 1.5
I transferred here from another college because of the area (which is great) but THIS SCHOOL made me quit college. It SUCKS here.
Overall 1.5
I am extremely dissatisfied with this university. It seems like most of the professors main priority is research rather than teaching. In addition, poor financial decisions like the infamous $750,000 sculpture have angered the student body. It seems like tuition is going UP while student care is going DOWN.

It's an ok school. There is absolutely no nightlife here and the food takes some getting used to. If I had to do it all over again I would recommend Manoa. Hilo is not that hard of a school to get into and the sports teams at this school remind me of highschoolers in the way that they act. Hilo can also be pretty intolerant towards outsiders.
