This school is amazing. They make sure all students find a place and are supported.

I am a 60 year old Honor Student at Winthrop University. I am a Transfer Student and this has been my first semester. So far, my experience here has been great. The classes are small and the Professors thus far have been excellent. They are readily available by seeing them in their office and also by email; and they follow up very quickly.

Winthrop was awesome.
Overall 4.5
Rock Hill is relatively quiet but there's a decent amount of nightlife, Charlotte is great and 20 minutes from campus. Social opportunities and events on campus are pretty good, although sometimes it's hard to know about what's going on in time. Decent sports teams. Professors are great, and you'll get hands-on experience as much as you want it.

Overall great school just needs some minor improvements
Overall 4.4
The internet was splotchy for a single week in Jan., in which professors were understanding and pushed back assignments. Theres tons of opportunities to get involved (even during Covid). It seems like a lot of people are still expecting to put the same minimal effort as they did in high school, and get the same results. Overall its a great school

WU tried its best with COVID. I do not think it should be judged based on how they handled a global pandemic no one was ready for. This is an excellent school and I would not want to go to any other school.

I love it here. Wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

Winthrop used to be okay, but after Covid it has gone severely downhill. The administration doesn't care at all about anything but your money. Many professors only see you as a face in the crowd. If you commute, you will get absolutely no benefits from the stuff going on on campus. Parking is awful and expensive. Internet is awful. Don't go here.
Overall 1.6
Winthrop is ok-ish... The debt I have from this place is hilarious, given the professors they have as an adjunct. All my professors in undergrad were great, but the adjunct for my master's are a complete joke. I don't know where they are getting these people from; they are incompetent. I pay $4k at least for a class to teach myself everything.
Overall 1.9
Rotten wood on Scholar's walk, mold/mildew in dorms, some areas flood. I'm all for historic architecture, but the campus buildings are rotting from the inside out. The powers that be need to get their priorities straight. Tear down the old buildings and put up new ones. We don't need hammocks on the campus lawns. We need ovens that actually work.
Overall 1.9
The food is terrible and should not be served to anyone EVER. Campus security isn't good because they take forever to show up when you call them. The facilities are super old and need to be renovated especially the dorms.
Overall 1.9
Not much to do on campus, mostly because there is not a lot offered. Winthrop is very serious about grades and schoolwork, which makes it really hard to have time to join clubs, sports team, and other organizations. Was very difficult for me to make friends because everyone already had their friend group, this school is somewhat cliquey.
Overall 2
COVID is difficult but there were lots of problems here before COVID and the pandemic just brought them to light. Most departments are pretty small so everyone is in each other's business. Being a liberal arts school, I sometimes got the feeling that political correctness and social justice were more important to Winthrop than the actual academics.
Overall 2
For a school that prides themselves on diversity, it is nearly invisible. On campus events? Good luck. Not much school spirit. Nearly everyone goes home on the weekend. Everything closes at 7pm on Friday and Saturday. Gym? On Sunday? Only open after 1 since "everyone" goes to church. Make sure you fit this school's stereotype before coming.
