Solution

Bacteria can be classified on the basis of their nutrition type into four main categories:

  1. Autotrophic Bacteria: These bacteria are capable of synthesizing their own food from inorganic substances. They use sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to prepare their food through the process of photosynthesis. An example of autotrophic bacteria is Cyanobacteria.

  2. Heterotrophic Bacteria: These bacteria cannot synthesize their own food. They depend on other organisms or dead organic matter for their nutrition. Most bacteria fall into this category. An example of heterotrophic bacteria is E.coli.

  3. Saprophytic Bacteria: These are a type of heterotrophic bacteria that obtain their nutrients from dead and decaying organic matter. They play a crucial role in the decomposition of organic matter. An example of saprophytic bacteria is Pseudomonas.

  4. Parasitic Bacteria: These are another type of heterotrophic bacteria that depend on a host organism for their nutrition. They can cause harm to their host organism. An example of parasitic bacteria is Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which causes tuberculosis in humans.
