Write an account of the collection of Hadiths during:• the Prophet’s lifetime, and• the time of the Companions immediately after the Prophet’s death.[10]

Collection of Hadiths During the Prophet's Lifetime:

1. During the Prophet Muhammad's lifetime, the Hadiths were not formally collected or written down. Instead, they were orally transmitted. The Prophet's companions memorized his sayings and actions, and passed them down to the next generation.

2. The Prophet himself encouraged his companions to convey his words to others. He said, "Convey from me, even if it is one verse."

3. Some companions, like Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Al-As, did write down some Hadiths during the Prophet's lifetime. He had a book called "As-Saheefa As-Saadiqah" which contained Hadiths he had heard from the Prophet.

Collection of Hadiths After the Prophet's Death:

1. After the Prophet's death, the need to preserve his teachings became more urgent. The companions started to collect and write down the Hadiths systematically.

2. The first Caliph, Abu Bakr, collected 500 Hadiths, but later he burned them because he was afraid that he might have misunderstood some of the Prophet's words.

3. The second Caliph, Umar ibn Al-Khattab, also planned to collect the Hadiths, but he gave up the idea due to the fear of the Muslims might neglect the Quran.

4. The third Caliph, Uthman ibn Affan, focused on the compilation of the Quran.

5. The fourth Caliph, Ali ibn Abi Talib, is said to have had a collection of Hadiths, but it was not made available to the public.

6. The most significant collection during this time was by the companion Abu Hurairah, who dedicated his life to memorizing and transmitting the Prophet's sayings. His collection is considered one of the most authentic and comprehensive.

7. The work of collecting and compiling Hadiths continued in the following generations, leading to the creation of the six major Hadith collections recognized by Sunni Muslims today.
