Solution

Poultry production in Uganda is influenced by a variety of factors. According to a study by Kugonza et al. (2012), the primary constraints include diseases, predation, and inadequate feeding. Diseases such as Newcastle disease and Gumboro are prevalent and can decimate poultry flocks. Predation by wild animals and theft also pose significant threats. Inadequate feeding, due to the high cost and unavailability of commercial feeds, affects the productivity of the birds. Additionally, a study by Muhanguzi et al. (2017) highlighted the impact of socio-economic factors. Limited access to credit facilities, lack of training and extension services, and poor infrastructure are some of the socio-economic challenges that hinder poultry production. Furthermore, climate change, as discussed by Nantima et al. (2015), is increasingly becoming a significant factor affecting poultry production in Uganda. The changing weather patterns and increasing temperatures affect the health and productivity of the birds. Therefore, addressing these challenges requires a multi-faceted approach that includes improving disease control measures, enhancing extension services, and developing policies that support the poultry industry.
