Solution

  1. Teaching and Preaching: After attaining enlightenment, Buddha spent the rest of his life teaching and preaching his philosophies to the people. He travelled extensively across the Indian subcontinent to spread his message. His teachings were simple and were based on his own experiences. He used the local language, so that everyone could understand his teachings.

  2. Formation of Sangha: Buddha formed a community of monks, known as the Sangha. The members of the Sangha were responsible for spreading Buddha's teachings. They lived a simple life, devoid of any materialistic pleasures, and dedicated their lives to the service of others. They travelled from place to place, teaching people about the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path.

  3. Use of Jataka Tales: Buddha used Jataka tales, stories about his previous births, to teach people about virtues like honesty, morality, kindness and wisdom. These stories were easy to understand and helped people to grasp the principles of Buddhism.

  4. Patronage of Kings: Many kings and rulers, like King Ashoka, became followers of Buddhism and helped in spreading Buddha's teachings. They built stupas, viharas and other Buddhist structures, and also sent missionaries to other countries to spread Buddhism.

  5. Use of Art and Architecture: Art and architecture were also used to spread Buddhism. The life and teachings of Buddha were depicted in various forms of art, like sculptures, paintings and architecture. These visual representations helped in spreading the message of Buddhism to a larger audience.
