Solution

Uganda's tourism sector has shown significant growth over the years. According to the World Bank, the sector contributed 7.7% to Uganda's GDP in 2019, up from 6.6% in 2018 (World Bank, 2020). The Uganda Bureau of Statistics reported that the country received 1.8 million international tourists in 2018, a 7.4% increase from 2017 (UBOS, 2019). The majority of these tourists came from Africa (54%), followed by Europe (16%) and North America (10%). The most popular tourist attractions include wildlife safaris in national parks, bird watching, mountain gorillas tracking, and cultural tourism. However, the sector has been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, with a projected decline of 73% in international tourist arrivals in 2020 (UNWTO, 2020).
